100 Bird Grand Prix Series

Review & Final Results

 Willie Carroon

Sunday seen the finale round of the 2017 100 bird Grand Prix Series.

This series has been running for a few years now and seems to have become very popular with shooter's from all over the country. This year we have had 545 gun's over the 3 rounds given an average 181 at each event so I think the numbers speak for themselves and hopefully it course was set to suit all abilities and everyone had something to to take away from their visits. One thing we did notice this year was that there was a lot of new faces about the ground which is always good to see, whether these be seasoned shooters on a first time visit or somebody that is new to the sport either way it's a positive to see.

Going into this weekend's final round it was all to play for with 8 shooters whom if producing a good score could make the way to the top of the pile and take the 2017 title.
Today we were very lucky with the weather it may have been cold but it was near perfect conditions for the most of the day there was only a few squads that had some rain.

When all the scores have been totalled and issues of best two scores from the series or taken in it showed that there was a tie at the top between Aidan Collins and and Willie Corroon both on 185's, but unfortunately Aidan was not in a position to make it back for a shoot off so the winner of the 2017 Grand Prix series and Robert Cavanagh Cup was Willie Corroon , Congratulations and Well done.

The winner of the Robert Cavanagh Shield which is presented to the highest scoring Club member of the series went to Maurice Cavanagh. We would like to also congratulate all the winners in the different classes. The prize fund also grew this year as it was just over €3500 which is another positive step also a quick mention of thanks to Courtlough Shooting Grounds for providing the first place prize for the Lady's category.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in the series this year as the support we see at each round really means a lot to the lads who put in their time and effort setting up the courses in some very poor weather and also the small team helping with the tide up and working throughout the 3 competition weekends. Thanks also to the guys in the office taking care of paperwork. This year we have the help of silverline catering to keep everyone fed and a steady flow of coffee to the team so thanks for your help folks.

Finally we have to thank Sean, John McKenna for their patience over the last 3 months it is really appreciated.

 Till the next time!
