This year’s event was eagerly anticipated as it was to be the first registered sporting shoot after the Covid-19 lockdown since the Coffey cup in Balivor back in early March. When entries opened for the SMcK Cup the time sheet was three-quarter full in the first 2 hours so competitors were anxious to get involved in this Ictsa World Sporting qualifier.
Over the course of the weekend we had over 210 guns on the 15 stand course for the 120 bird event but with all the current H&S guidelines it was decided not to have the super final this year to avoid any extra risk to all those involved.
As the scores started to roll in there were several with plus 100’s but Dennis O’Sullivan topped the list for the Saturday with a 107 on a day that had mixed weather and gusting winds. Sunday had one rain shower late in the afternoon but for the most part a good day weather wise. First of the top scores back on Sunday was Glen Goslin with a 110 followed by Andrew McKeown -111,Peter Hanifin – 112 and in the final part of the day Colin Dunne returned with a super 113 and this was to hold fast for the overall win. This was the 3rd consecutive year that Colin has taken the top spot and his 4th win over all in the cups History; we would like to congratulate Colin and all the class winners.
We would like to also thank everyone who supported the event and all seemed to do their own bit to help in our efforts to work in a Covid safe environment.
Big thanks to all the lads who helped out on the ground over the last few weeks in getting ready & setting the course, also the crew on the ground for the weekend with the course and the tidy up this evening.
As some seen we did have some issues with clays over the weekend and we do thank everyone for their patience while the lads dealt with it in a couple of locations on the course,
I guess every day is a school day!
Finally big thanks to Sean, John and the McKenna Family for their continued support and use of their lands.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
